The episode on which the picture was used was about Saqqara and the artwork had to represent wath was the Djoser Pyramid like before the present day. The buildings are done in Maya and Renderman, all the rest in Photoshop with hand-painting.

Matte painting: Clamps of steel

It's made entirely with Photoshop CS2 and a Wacom tablet. The process consisted mainly in chosing a nice color pallette, hand-painting the ancient buildings and the other elements over the existing picture and creating a proper atmosphere for the scene through the lighting. Photo integration helped to achieve realism.

The inspiration for thismatte painting comes from David Friedrich paintings. I tried to resemble the same gothic moods of his art and, at the same time, to play a little bit with the camera angle and the perspective.
I started from a concept sketch and then refined t to achieve a realistic feel, even integrating photos.

Farewell To Fangorn

This picture was born to prove myself on matte painting so the original idea was to paint just a matte without a specific subject.
Then I got the idea of this scene from Lord of the Rings and panted the whole picure trying to create the same atmosphere of the book.
The story behind the picture is about the Entwives (the character at the left) leaving the Ents in their woods. They will go to the west preferring agricolture to wild life in the forest.
- Totally painted in Photoshop with a Wacom Graphire 3
-Original resolution: 4000x2000
- Painted in 3 weeks, spare time.
i really hope you like it, I've spent a lot of time on details
The project has been a test for my modelling skills. The base mesh was done in Modo and Maya and then, when I was satisfied enough, sculpted with Zbrush subdividing it until 6 million polys.
The rendering is done in Renderman (prman) using the base mesh and the displacement map exported with Zbrush. The multilayered shader is written from scratch.
